Nanostructured Polymer Center

We focus on research and development of special types of polymer binders, surface modifiers for nanostructures and with formulation of polymer systems which contain nanomaterials. Our labs are equipped for their synthesis as well as for their fundamental characterization.

Materials

  • Carbon-based nanomaterials: graphite, graphene, nanotubes,
  • Layered nanoparticles: clays, layered double hydroxides (LDH), phosphonates,
  • Nanoparticles based on metals (e.g. Ag, ZnO, TiO₂),
  • Polymers for the preparation of nanofibers and nanolayers,
  • Hydrogels with defined rheological properties.

Activities

  • Preparation and chemical modification/functionalization of nanoparticles,

  • Synthesis of surface modifiers for nanostructures,

  • Synthesis of metal nanoparticles anchored to polymer matrix,

  • Incorporation of nanostructures into polymeric dispersions and preparation of stable concentrates (masterbatch),

  • Formulation of polymer systems modified with nanostructures,

  • Analysis of (nano)materials

    • Particle size (dynamic light scattering method),

    • Atomic force microscopy (AFM),

    • Many others advanced analytical techniques are available in cooperation with universities.

Application of Developed Technologies and Materials

  • Paints and coatings,

  • Materials for conservation and restoration of historical objects,

  • Adhesives,

  • Composites for construction, electrical engineering, automotive industry, aviation,

  • Conductive polymeric systems (electrostatic protective coatings),

  • Intermediates for cosmetic applications.

Other Activities

  • Participation in national and international research teams,
  • Active support for professional practice of high school students, university students and Ph.D. students.
